Entrepreneur or not, your time is important. Yes, even if it’s your ‘free’ time.
Why it’s important?
If you want to consistently produce results in your business and someday aspire to be in top 10% of whatever it is you do, you have to seriously consider using your time in the most optimum way possible. That includes effectively utilizing your free time.
You can lose money, and get it back. You can lose relationships and grow it back. You can lose faith and hope, and grow it back.
But time… Nah, once lost, you will not get it back. Period.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t take a break
Yes, you need break; the last thing you want is mental fatigue.
Take 15-minute coffee breaks, not 2 hour Netflix binges. There’s a huge difference.
5 Best ways to utilize your free time:
What to do when you’re free? Here’s what:
Does having 20 inch biceps help you at work? No.
Does having a healthy body, a fresh mind and being active help you at work? Yes.
You don’t have to train like Michael Phelps. All I’m saying is exercise is a great way to take care of yourself and feel good about yourself. Besides it’s definitely a better option than wasting time on your Instagram feed.
Benefits include stress relief, a refreshed feeling, better health, increased longevity and increased activeness.
45 minute sessions 4 days a week, should be enough for you to see the benefits.
2.Prepare you own meals:
This isn’t something you necessarily have to do.
But, if you have the time, you might as well prepare you own meals and skip out on the burgers and fries for lunch, at work.
Coupled with exercise and a healthy lifestyle, eating good food will help you feel a lot healthier and better about yourself.
3.Watch the news:
It is true that a lot of the news shown today is either biased, heavily exaggerated or made up. You don’t have to believe and live by everything that you see.
Your purpose of watching the news is going to be to stay updated with all the current global issues. As a successful entrepreneur, you must have something in mind, to give back to society. If you ever do come across an issue that you think you can improve, there you have it- your chance of benefiting society as well as a new biz idea.
Also, if your job or business if affected by political and market changes, I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t want to stay updated with the latest news.
This probably is the best way you can utilize your free time. The technology today, makes it so convenient to read on to go. The hours you spend travelling, might as well be utilized effectively, with the help of an audio-book or a kindle.
Here’s are top recommendations for 2017, from our bookstore.
With the amount of noise and distraction present around us, today, it is nearly impossible to get a moment with yourself, to reflect and meditate.
If you have access to a garden, or you live close to the woods, spend some time in a peaceful surrounding, all by yourself, reflecting on your goals and visualizing success. Take a moment to think positively and appreciate life.
If not, just invest in a pair of noise cancelling headphones, so you can experience the same peace amid a noisy neighborhood.
Just 10 minutes of meditation in solitude, will help you have a much more positive outlook on life.
Here’s a bonus, Number 6…
Get back at your desk and work.
In the world of business, it’s always the hardest worker in the room, that succeeds. One day, all the 15 hour workdays will pay off.
Do you have trouble controlling bad habits? Does a small break turn into an entire wasted day?
If yes, it looks like you need to give ‘The Power of Habit’, by Charles Duhigg a read.
